Menus as of 15 Oct 2026, from OpenAI's help pages
Before you start
- Open ChatGPT and sign in to your personal account on the web.
- Choose the action you need below.
See what it remembers
- Type What do you remember about me? in a regular chat.
You'll see a reply about remembered details.
Turn memory off
- Open Settings → Personalization → Memory; turn Memory off.
You'll see the Memory switch off.
Delete one memory
- Type Forget the saved memory that [detail]. Replace [detail] with the information to remove.
You'll see a reply to your removal request.
Use a Temporary Chat
- Open a new chat. Tap Temporary → Unpersonalized before messaging.
You'll see a temporary chat with personalization off.
Good to know
- Menus differ by account; a reply is an overview, not a complete memory inventory.
- Deleting a chat or turning memory off does not delete a separate saved memory; remove original sources too.
- OpenAI can retain deleted-memory logs and Temporary Chat copies for up to 30 days.
If it didn't work
- Memory menu looks different: check the linked Memory help page for your account's controls.
- Wrong Temporary Chat choice: start a new one and choose Unpersonalized before messaging.
